Hey there, and welcome to the Lumia Stream Blog! In this article, we will be going over the basic functionality of Lumia Stream, and tell you about various different settings that you can control in the program. This basic functionality is the foundation of a good user experience, and having the ability to customize them to your liking can improve your workflow efficiency.
For example, you’ll learn how to set up Lumia Stream to start on Boot, show it in the taskbar, Hook up to various platforms and services, and more. A lot of these processes were designed to be as frictionless as possible so that you can get out there and create amazing content with Lumia Stream supplementing your creative process. We hope that this article is helpful to you in your Journey!
How to set Lumia Stream to Start on Boot
One of the most convenient features in modern programs these days is to start on boot so that it will always be ready for you. This is a major quality of life feature and one that is available to you Luminerers!
To enable “start on boot”:
- Open up the Lumia Stream Application - Download it Here
- Click on the Gear located in the top right of the application window.
- Look for and click “General Tab”
- Under “Application”, set “Start Lumia Stream On Boot” to “On”
While you are in here, if you’d like to enable showing Lumia Stream on your Task Bar, you can easily enable that option from here too.
How to Manually check for an app update in Lumia Stream
By default, Lumia Stream will check to see if it is the latest version automatically on start, but you may also manually check for an update to ensure that you have the latest build at your disposal. To do this, simply click on “Account”. At the top left of the window, next to the navigation menu is both the current version you are running, as well as a button labeled “Check for Update”.
Simply click that button, and if there is an update available, a new window will display and guide you through the process. If there is no update available, then the button will simply not appear to do anything. (We assure you, it is indeed doing something!)
How to Connect Lumia Stream to Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube
At the very core of Lumia Stream’s basic functionality is the ability to connect to the three most popular streaming platforms API’s to allow chat commands to function. We’ll be covering that subject in more detail in a later article, so stay tuned for that!
We’ve made connecting to these platforms as easy as it can be, using an OAuth token. In fact, if you’ve never opened up Lumia Stream before, the very first thing it will prompt you to do is to connect these accounts. If you skipped that process (Which you can do by clicking “Skip” in the top right corner) or recently moved platforms, then you can find that window under the “Connections” tab inside of the settings window.
Look for the button labeled “Platforms”, located at the top of the window, click it, and follow the directions of the prompts.
If you’re concerned about the permission for YouTube: “See, edit, and permanently delete your YouTube videos, ratings, comments, and captions”, that is the only way to utilize chat commands on that platform for Lumia Stream control. YouTube hasn’t separated out the ability to read chat from the rest of those permissions, but we assure you, the only thing we’ll ever do with the Lumia Stream program is to look for “Chat commands”.
Either way, for all three platforms, the process is the same.
How to enable the Alert Queue in Lumia Stream
An alert queue is for those who like to have their lights go haywire for a raid and sub trains. This feature is disabled by default, as it can get clogged up pretty easily if you end up getting a big sub train, but you can enable it by clicking on “Queue” in the Lumia Stream settings. In this window, there are two sections, underneath “Alerts”, you can enable this feature for Stream alerts by clicking the “Off” button”
The second section will allow a Queue for reactions and Hypes generated from chat commands. Just be aware that if you have a particularly active chat using the commands, your lights will be going haywire for awhile...if not indefinitely.
How to enable Chat cooldown to prevent Queue from getting too long
Adding a cooldown to chat commands is one of the most effective ways to limit your queue from getting too long from very excited audience members who like to control your lights. This will apply a global cooldown to commands, preventing any new ones from registering during the cooldown period.
Enabling this feature can be done like so:
- Navigate to the settings window by clicking on the gear at the top right
- Look for a menu item labeled chat, and expand it by clicking the + sign
- Click “Cooldowns”
- Set this feature to “On”
Once enabled, a new section will appear, allowing you to control the duration of the cooldowns, as well as adding the optional ability for certain member “Tiers” to bypass this cooldown.
That’s all for the introduction to some of the basic functionality. We’ll be covering it in more detail as time goes on, so stay tuned for the next one! For now, please refer to the Lumia School for additional information!
